Judge denies Buju's Banton application for December show

A request by Buju Banton's defence team for him to perform at a Boxing Day concert in the United States has been denied. Buju, 37 , whose given name is Mark Myrie, wanted to perform at a live concert in Miami on December 26. However, the Tampa Bay Tribune reports that US Magistrate Judge Anthony Porcelli denied that request on Tuesday. The US Magistrate argued that any financial pressures the international reggae singer faces do not outweigh the risk that he might flee. On Wednesday, Buju's attorney asked the judge to reconsider, saying the 24- hour security detail ordered to monitor the singer as a condition of his release, costs US$20 ,000 a month. In addition, Buju's attorney argued that there was the cost of preparing for his upcoming drug trafficking retrial. It is understood that Buju's security detail does not object to him doing the concert and would be present for the show. The prosecutor however, has objected to the artiste's request to perform.       There is no official word yet on whether Buju will be allowed to attend the show.
