Dancehall Mavado's birthday event cancelled, permit revoked


DEEJAY Mavado has taken the decision to cancel this year's staging of the LIME Real McKoy event. A statement from the deejay states, "We received a police permit on October 20 for the original venue, Coruba Beach Club, but were shocked to receive another letter from the same branch of the JCF revoking that permit just last week." The release went on to state that Mavado has taken a huge financial loss in this endeavour as the promotion team did not spend a dollar until the police permit was in place.It is further understood that since Mavado received the letter of refusal, at least three events have been held at that same venue. The deejay states that while his team is not surprised that their event has been targeted, "It's still a bitter pill" . The statement continues that while alternative venues were sought, the logistics were just too much to take on at the last minute, therefore the decision was taken to pull the plug on the event for 2010. Mavado says he is aware that there are many disappointed fans who had planned to attend, and the deejay says he shares their disappointment.

MAN SHORTAGE AFFECTS CHURCHES IN JAMAICA - Christian women complain of lack of potential husbands

he shortage of men has become a growing problem in several Jamaican churches. The st ar understands that with some church population having as much as 80 per cent women, a large number of females have been left with a problem to find husbands. This is a huge concern for a number of churches, with at least one reverend saying the shortage is at a crisis level.Reverend Philbert Johnson, ministry development officer in the New Testament Church of God, said there is a serious shortage in the number of men in the church as women in their 30s and late 40s cannot find a suitable partner. Johnson, a pastor at one of the Testament branches, said at that location he had approximately 300 members of which only 40 were men. He further said that approximately 20 of those are already married.
