Tessanne Chin, advanced to the top five of NBC's singing competition, The Voice, on Tuesday night

Jamaica's Tessanne Chin, advanced to the top five of NBC's singing competition, The Voice, on Tuesday night.
On elimination night, following Monday's performance show, Chin's was the third name called to make it through to another round of the engrossing contest, easing her jitters relatively early in the proceedings.

The lone casualty turned out to be Matthew Schuler, who, for much of the competition, had been installed as a favourite to go all the way. After two consecutive weeks of relatively weak performances, however, he was out. Having benefited from the "instant save" of voters on the night last week, he wasn't so lucky this round, his journey coming to an end much earlier than had been widely expected.

The early indications, following Tessanne's performance of two songs on Monday night, was that she was doing quite strongly in the purchases of iTune copies of the tunes - Bob Marley's Redemption Song and Unconditionally, by Katy Perry, and that proved to be a good predictor of her voter support.
