Vybz Kartel says he will sue Owen Ellington

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jailed entertainer Vybz Kartel is claiming in a suit to be filed today (July 8) against the police commissioner and television station Television Jamaica (TVJ) that his reputation has been “seriously damaged” and that he has “suffered distress and embarrassment” by comments made on the programme All Angles.

According to documents obtained by OBSERVER ONLINE the artiste is seeking damages for defamation in that “the first claimant [Owen Ellington] on or about the 10th April 2014 maliciously spoke of, and concerning the claimant, certain words which were calculated to and did injure the claimant in his profession as a musician and artiste and exposed the claimant to ridicule and contempt...” the document said.
The documents, which is signed by Vybz Kartel whose real name is Adidja Palmer, contends that TVJ “negligently and/or recklessly caused the publication of the said words” on the programme All Angles hosted by journalist Dionne Jackson-Miller. Jackson-Miller hasn’t been named as a defendant in the suit.
The document said that Ellington has failed to retract the words and that TVJ has taken no steps to disassociate itself from the “said words, or issue and apology or retraction.
Vybz Kartel, and other men, is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of a friend Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams over the disappearance of two illegal guns.
