35 years minimum for Vybz Kartel, long sentences for fellow convicts as well

Adidjah Palmer, the deejay who goes by the stage name Vybz Kartel, and his three co-convicts have been sentenced to life in prison for murder.

Palmer will be eligible for parole after 35 years, Shawn "Shawn Storm" Campbell after 25 years, Kahira Jones after 25 years and Andre "Mad Suss" St. John, in 30  years.
Palmer, along with Shawn "Shawn Storm" Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre "Mad Suss" St. John were sentenced by Justice Lennox Campbell on Thursday morning.

Submissions
Defence attorney Pierre Rogers made a joint submission on behalf of Tamika Harris for their clients, Kahira Jones and Andre St John.

Mr. Rogers had urged the Judge to pass a 15 year sentence for Kahira Jones and Andre St John as well as a chance for rehabilitation for both.
Attorney Miguel Lorne also spoke on behalf of his client Shawn "Shawn Storm" Campbell.

Found guilty
On March 13, 2014, the four were found guilty (in a 10-1 majority verdict) of the murder of Williams. Shane Williams, a fifth accused, was found not guilty, but is awaiting trial for another murder.
It was on October 24, 2011 that Adidjah Palmer, a popular dancehall deejay who uses the stage name, Vybz Kartel, was arrested. He and Kahira Jones were taken in by the St. Andrew North Police in relation to the killing of Williams, a dancer, two months earlier.

Four of Palmer’s associates - the entertainer's fashion designer Calvin "Moonie" Hayes; Shawn "Shawn Storm" Campbell; Shane Williams, Andre St. John, alias "Mad Suss” - were later also arrested.
The Prosecution alleged that in August 2011, Mr. Williams was taken to Palmer’s home in Havendale, St Andrew, where he was stabbed and beaten to death over two missing guns. Mr. Williams' body has not been found.

The sentencing was postponed last week by Justice Lennox Campbell, who needed more information from the defence team.
