An act of kindness by Jamaican reggae singer Buju Banton while being detained in the Pinellas County Jail in Florida has resulted in him being confined in the maximum security wing of the penal institution and has contributed to him losing around 40 pounds, according to his lawyer David Markus. That's the claim included in an eight-page bond application filed to the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division, on Sunday by Markus. The court will hear Markus' emergency application for bond on Friday. Markus said he hopes to have Buju returned to the non-maximum security unit or have him transferred to immigration custody. Buju and two alleged co-conspirators have been in custody in the United States since last December when they were charged with conspiracy to possess cocaine and aiding and abetting the carrying of a firearm during a drug-trafficking crime. Cops hunting former police commandant

A lawyer representing Harold Crooks — the former Island Special Constabulary Force commandant who is being sought by the police for alleged sex-related offences -- says his client has rejected his persuasion to turn himself in to the police. Crooks' attorney Vincent Wellesley, said despite attempts yesterday to persuade his client to surrender to the law, he remained resolute he would not hand himself over. "He called me yesterday and I told him to turn himself in. He (however) said he does not intend to do so," said Wellesley, in a telephone interview with the Observer. Police launched a manhunt for Crooks over the weekend after he failed on two occasions to turn up for an interview at the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) last week. Deputy Superintendent Herfa Beckford, head of CISOCA, said attempts to find Crooks at his home had proven futile. "He made arrangement to come with his lawyer on Mon...

BUJU BANTON RECEIVE INHUMANE TREATEMENT IN PRISON DECRIES LAWYER

Image
TAMPA - Grammy-nominated reggae singer Buju Banton is being treated "inhumanely" in the Pinellas County Jail as he awaits trial on federal drug charges, his lawyer said in a court filing. Because he "had the audacity to share his food with another inmate," Banton was placed Thursday in a maximum security wing where he is unable to prepare the vegetarian diet he requires for religious purposes, according to defense attorney David Oscar Markus. Pinellas sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Tom Nestor said Banton was disciplined because he was "using food as currency." He said inmates are told such behavior is prohibited. Nestor also said the jail does not have a maximum security wing, but that Banton is in an area known as "close custody," which has increased monitoring. Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, was arrested in Miami in December and transferred in January to the Pinellas County Jail, which holds federal prisoners awa...

Blake landed at the Norman Manley International Airport and was afterwards taken to the CIB headquarters where he was processed. He was sentenced to 28 years in 2000 when he admitted to racketeering and criminal conspiracy that allegedly culminated in about 1,400 murders. Looking for the 'real big man'

Image
The prospect of having the nice car, the kids, the big house with the white picket fence and the tall, dark and handsome husband is rapidly fading into oblivion because there are very few young men who are making themselves available to adequately fill the role. The word being thrown around by many is 'marginalised', an di hot part bout it is that nuff a who a use it don't even know wah it mean, and the set who know di meaning don't see how they are the one, marginalising themselves. Women are forging ahead of men in record numbers and as such it's hard to find that partner to complement our lives and one who can appreciate our success and be just as successful. Yes you a go feel marginalised if yuh go school and play stucky pon u mother money, want 10 baby-mothers when you cant even buy yuhself a  cigarette , and yes, you're gonna feel marginalised if you want a million dollar by a mawning but have no clear path or plans as to how t...
