Buju Banton trial on LIME mobile tv phones

Telecommunications company LIME will be transporting thousands of Jamaicans via its mobile television service to the courtroom in Tampa, Florida, where embattled reggae star Buju Banton is standing trial for drug-trafficking and other charges.

"This is an issue that Jamaicans are truly interested in and we are proud to be providing unrestricted access for Buju fans and others who would like to follow the trial proceedings,' said Stephen Price, LIME regional special projects manager, in a release sent to the star

Coverage of the trial report, inclusive of special interviews, will be available from February 13 to 19 on Channel 1 on LIME mobile TV handsets at 10, nightly. LIME will also broadcast repeats of the previous day's coverage from 12 a.m., to 12 noon each day.

Since the November 2010 launch of its mobile television service, LIME has provided premium coverage of several major events including Sting 2010 and Rebel Salute 2011. In January, the company made history with the broadcast of Buju Banton's Before the Dawn concert live from Miami, Florida.

reggae's top performers

The promise of seeing Buju on stage for the first time in more than a year with a supporting slate of some of reggae's top performers, had thousands of Jamaican lining up to trade in their phones from other networks in exchange for LIME mobile TV handsets. The trade-in sale was a major success causing massive crowds and long lines at the LIME outlets where the special was offered.
"Premium content will drive the popularity of this great technology and LIME has major plans to keep delivering in-demand programming to our customers' mobile TV handsets," Price added in the release.
LIME mobile TV service, the first of its kind in the Caribbean, offers premium digital channels including local and international news, sports and entertainment channels.
