Andrae Jay Sutherland known as Popcaan Biography



Andrae Jay Sutherland (born July 15, 1988 Saint Thomas Parish, Jamaica), better known as Popcaan or Poppi, is a Jamaican dancehall artist. Sutherland is originally from Seaforth, St Thomas, Jamaica. As a youngster he attended the Happy Grove High School located in Hector's River, Portland Jamaica where he began to show signs of his love for and desire of wanting to become a dancehall artiste. During his high school days, poppi was associated with other potential dancehall acts such as Zebbi D, Gilberto, and War Hammer just to name a few. He was known by many to be somewhat of a trouble maker during his high school days, as he was always getting into trouble with authority within the school.

In 2007, he was spotted at a party and asked to join Kartel's group Portmore Empire.
Sutherland made his debut in 2008, With his smash single "My War". He gained international success in 2010 with the hit song "Clarks" which also featured his mentor Vybz Kartel. He is also famous for his songs "Dream",Raving on the Summertim riddim which has been a huge hit and "Gangsters City". Most of his songs start with his signature catchphrase "wha ah gwaan?" and "not nice" In 2011, Popcaan received Excellence in Music and Entertainment (EME) Awards for the 'Best New Artiste', and 'Collaboration of the Year' for "Clarks" with Vybz Kartel and Gaza Slim, the song also winning the award for 'Song of the Year — Dancehall
