Social networking site party coming to Jamaica

Jamaican’s fascination with social networks is set to take off even more as preparations are now in place to merge social networking and location tagging website, Foursquare, into the local party scene with an event called ReTweet.

ReTweet is the brainchild of Brandon Allwood who said his team reached out to Foursquare with their ideas about the use of the website in Jamaica for an event.
“Jamaica is such a beautiful place with so many hidden gems and exciting people, so Foursquare is ideal for Jamaica,”

“It [Foursquare] even makes doing your regular errands fun. We’re going to be taking the spirit and capabilities of Foursquare and translate them into activities to engage Jamaican party goers and drive them to the platform,” Allwood said.

He said the event is a citywide treasure hunt, at the end of which an iPad2 will be given away.
Foursquare is a web and mobile application that allows registered users to connect with friends and update their location.

Points are awarded for "checking in" at venues via a smart phone application or SMS.
Users can choose to have their check-ins posted on their accounts on Twitter, Facebook, or both.
