Selector sheds tear at Boom 45 face-off sound clash.
The Boom 45 face-off last Saturday was nothing short of explosive, as contestants came from all coordinal points, sacrificing sweat and tears to shake off opponents with the hope of being the last man standing at this year's staging of Fully Loaded.
The event was slated to start at 10 p.m. but it took an additional two hours before the organisers could get the records turning. By midnight everything was in order and wartime was inevitable.
During the juggling segment, selectors were required to play for 10 minutes. First up was DJ Proud who played hip hop songs, along with a sequence of Vybz Kartel for which he got a good response. He was followed by DJ Real Deal from Ocho Rios. His set was marred by technical difficulties, but he still managed to survive playing a hardcore, dancehall segment. DJ Ziggy came next and delivered a powerful set mastering his mike control and playing cultural songs.
The contestants following DJ Ziggy made a good impact: DJ Mouse, DJ Swizzle, DJ Chubrok and Sniper, DJ Naz, DJ Jagga, Sensation Sound and DJ Blue who impressed the judges with his fancy mixing skills.
clash classics
Following the juggling, one sound was eliminated and each remaining contestant was required to play for five minutes using specials of their choice to defeat their challenger.
The segment saw the use of sound clash classics such as Bushman's Call the Hearse. DJ Naz went up against DJ Ziggy in a very steamy battle, in the Naz triumph over a teary-eyed DJ Ziggy. "Yu a come a Fully Loaded come watch me a play from the crowd," she threatened before playing Vybz Kartel's Wey Dem Feel Likemuch to the delight of the 'blood thirsty' audience.
Another notable moment was DJ Swizzle getting the better of DJ Mouse by playing the popular jingle Three Blind Mice. The entire club erupted as Mouse was left speechless. DJ Chubrok and Sniper also won their round over DJ Blue by playing No Body Canna Cross it.
The final round saw the underdog DJ Mouse destroying DJ Chubrok and Sniper to book his place in the final four. Other contestants securing places were DJ Naz, DJ Jagga and DJ Swizzle.
Guest judge, dancehall producer Greypatch said some selectors stood out, however, some spoke too much and reduced their chance of going to the next round.
