Althea Perry, the common-law wife of imprisoned entertainer Garfield "Zebra" Vassell, was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment on a charge of negligence in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Perry, 39,was sentenced by Resident Magistrate (RM) Simone Wolfe-Reece.
The RM told the accused it was a very serious offence for which she was charged. She then imposed the custodial sentence.
Perry's appearance in court arose from the 2009 arrest and charge of Zebra for rape.
Investigating officer Corporal Julian Martin-Findlay led evidence that during an extended period Vassell sexually assaulted Perry's relative. Instead of reporting the matter to the police she covered the criminal act.
The matter came to light after a senior relative made a report to the police which resulted in her being charged with negligence.
