Singer Mavado charged with assault this morning.
















The police have charged dancehall star Mavado has been charged following an altercation at a New Kingston nightclub early Monday morning, June 13.

Mavado, whose given name is David Brooks, was charged Monday evening after being questioned by detectives at the Half Way Tree Police Station but was given $30,000 bail.

The police had described Mavado and fellow dancehall artiste, Bounty Killer, whose given name is Rodney Pryce, as person on interest in the incident which left one man wounded early Monday morning.
They were asked to report to the Half Way Tree Police Station by midday Monday.

Bounty Killer was the first to turn himself in to the Half Way Tree Police and was questioned and released.

Mavado turned himself in Monday afternoon and was charged hours later.

The two dancehall artistes were requested to turn themselves in as part of a police investigation into the incident, in which a member of Mavado's entourage was shot by an off-duty policeman guarding the entrance to the nightclub resulting in a stand-off between them and a police team.

The policeman was trying to search Mavado, who resisted, when a scuffle between the artiste and the cop, who was hit in the face.

The policeman reportedly fired a shot which struck the member of the entourage in the abdomen.

He remains in hospital reportedly in serious but stable condition.
