Vybz Kartel Lookalike creates stir at Tastee audition May 2012
Contestant number 27, a Vybz Kartel lookalike, was all the rage at the Ocho Rios auditions for the 2012 Tastee Talent Trail series.Displaying an uncanny resemblance to the incarcerated 'world boss', the deejay wannabe flopped badly in his attempt to gain a Lifeline Card and make it into the next round of the Talent Trail.
With his bleached facial appearance and trademark dark glasses, onlookers wondered if the Portmore Empire boss had received bail and was attempting to restart his career via entry into the Tastee Talent Trail.
At the end of an entertaining day, which saw just under 100 persons attending the audition, eight persons were selected to go on to the next round. Six singers, a deejay, and a singjay, will represent the Ocho Rios audition in the round following the audition.
Those fortunate enough to receive a Lifeline Card were singjay André Thompson, deejay Anthony Clarke, and singers Henley McKenzie, twin brothers Lenroy and Lennoy Lewin, Xavian Thomas, Tineshi Baldoue, David Hedlam, and Jermaine Burford.
The above-named will move on to the next phase of the contest sponsored by Tastee, Pepsi, TVJ, FAME, Sparkles, T-Shirt Express, and Car Rental. the top prizes are: $1 million is for first; $500,000 for second; and $150,000 for third.
The new judges panel consists of singer Alaine, Oral Tracey, and Amelia 'Milk' Sewell. From the start, commentaries were both biting and constructive.
The next audition will take place on Saturday, June 9, at the Manchester high school. Other auditions are slated for Montego Bay on July 28, Morant Bay on August 11, and in Kingston, on September 8.
