GRANDMA IN ABORTION DRAMA - 63-year-old held after procedure went wrong

Formal charges have been laid against a 63-year-old St Elizabeth woman who allegedly secured an abortion for her 15-year-old granddaughter who was reportedly impregnated by a 45-year-old taxi operator.


The elderly woman has been charged with attempting to procure abortion and child neglect and is to stand trial in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court on July 1, while the taxi operator, Roy Longmore, also of a St Elizabeth address, was charged with carnal abuse.
Both were charged last week.

Investigators from the St Elizabeth police say between February and March, the 15-year-old schoolgirl was sexually assaulted and ended up pregnant.
A subsequent abortion resulted in the teen getting extremely sick. She reportedly had to be hospitalised for several days.
Further reports are that the matter reached the St Elizabeth police and following investigations, the grandmother and Longmore were taken into custody and subsequently charged.
Both accused pleaded not guilty when the matter was mentioned in the St Elizabeth Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.
